It's that time of the year again, when the Peer Leaders spring into action.
In this camp, Peer Leaders are often stretched and challenged to their limits. Managing big groups of students has never been the easiest task. Any senior Peer Leader will say 'Aye' to that!
But it is when the going gets tough, the tough gets going.
Peer Leaders are always made of a different mettle, compared to other student groups. They think on their feet and never easy to beat. They'll bounce back right at ya.
To the 15 Peer Leaders who are headed to Jalan Bahtera next week, you are returning to your second home, having been there as a Sec 2 camper and as a Peer Leader trainee.
You know the ins and outs of the campsite, and the best areas for games, and the safety considerations for each adventure station.
Therefore, I must emphasise this to all of you: the SAFETY of the campers is the most important. Every single camper under your charge must never be left out of your sight. You must be vigilant to see that all safety rules are adhered to. Be prepared to be very firm to anyone who is slow to follow rules and regulations.
Pack well. Travel light. Your water bottle is a must. Eat well. Be fully prepared for every activity. Read up on your PLTC notes. Refresh your memory on what the PLTC teachers had instructed you during your training. No one will be there to remind you anymore. You must perform. You cannot be ignorant.
Assist the teachers to the best of your ability. A leader is also a good follower, and will submit to the relevant authority. Therefore, respect the teachers and work with them, not against them. Understand that the teachers are there for the campers' safety too.
Cooperate with the instructors from Camp High Achievers. They are dynamic, bouncy and very enthusiastic. You must learn from them. Get your pen and notebooks ready. Be willing to learn from them, and bring new ideas back to FSS. We can use these new ideas to expand our PLTCs and Mega Camps. Work with them and ensure that the instructors' rules and instructions are duly carried out. Also, make sure that the instructors are very alert to all safety rules. Alert them if they fail to spot a safety breach. Remember: the SAFETY of the Sec 2 campers is the most important!
Sleep well. Eat well. Drink well.
Lastly, the Peer Leaders must be united. Work together like a well-oiled engine. Be honest and communicate freely with each other. Put aside personal feelings for the greater good. Ensure that the camp objectives are met, and this can be achieved by a united effort from all 15 Peer Leaders.
To Seraphina, Ninie, Azmeran, Shahrulnizam, Sebastian, Pei Shi, Hanafi, Fransisca, Amirah, Cai Ling, Atiqah, Zubaidah, Feqaa, Azfar and Ming Hui - support one another every moment that you can. Look out for one another. Lift each other up when the spirit is down. Share your joy. Encourage.
It's very simple actually - success is achieved through team work.
To Amelea and Kamila, a different journey awaits you - an immersion program to the great nation of China. You will both experience a different yet equally exhilarating form of excitement and experience.
Finally, I would like to end off my post with this: In all that you do, as a Peer Leader, you have been raised on the fundamental values of faithfulness and integrity.
Lead by example, and you might just inspire some of the Sec 2s to dream big dreams and ignite their ambitions to be future Peer Leaders.
All the best!
